“If I can help in any way to provide an opportunity and some much-needed guidance to others to hopefully change the course of their lives then I will do what I can in return for what others did for me many years ago.“

Leon’s rugby career received a massive boost when he was introduced at the age of 16 to Leicester Tigers by a contact named Pete Lloyd (no relation). It was at here that Leon went on to spend the majority of his playing career and experience some of his greatest and most memorable moments as a professional rugby player. Today, Leon is keen to use his own experiences as a sports professional and now also in business to improve the lives and opportunities of others.

He became actively involved in charity and fundraising during his playing career, which is when he was appointed, and continues to be, an active ambassador for both The Prince’s Trust and the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation (CNCF).

The Prince’s Trust

Leon has been an ambassador of The Prince’s Trust for over 10 years and remains committed to helping the charity raise awareness of the work it does to help change the lives of young people. Leon is able to channel his energy and drive to ‘give something back’ by getting involved in fundraising events that help raise vital funds, supporting campaigns and generally raising the charity’s profile.

Leon has also joined the Princes Trust Business Mentor Programme, which was established to help those from varying backgrounds who are desperately trying to change their own lives for the better by setting up their own businesses and becoming self-employed.

The Christina Noble Children’s Foundation

It was during his rugby playing days in 2006 that Leon became a sports ambassador for the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation (CNCF), an international partnership of people dedicated to alleviating child poverty in Vietnam and Mongolia. Along with many other high profile rugby players, Leon helps raise much-needed funds for the charity through a variety of initiatives including sporting gala’s and inspirational trips abroad:

“One of the most humbling experiences of my life was when Steve Thompson and I visited Vietnam to help film a fundraising promotional video for the CNCF. Meeting so many orphans and hearing their stories of daily survival put things into perspective and highlighted how lucky we all are and how much more we could all be doing.”
